A professor from Cartagena has just presented Pure Car, an impressive convertible with an electric motor, made with his own hands. Pure Car, a man’s dream

“I got sick right at the moment when I was organizing a sculpture exhibition,” says Carlos Rodríguez, jovial at 54. “I was very serious and, when I recovered, I reconsidered many things. To begin with, life is a sigh, and every time I had less time to fulfill my dreams. ” One of them was to create his own car. Rodriguez is joined by two passions: motorsport and design . Regarding the latter, I had studied a distance industrial design course by UNED. “They did not give any knowledge of engineering, so I had to read a lot about chassis, suspensions, engines …”.

This entrepreneur was clear about what the creation would be: a sports and convertible body, and an electric motor. ” I wanted my car to have a future, and that goes through electric mobility. Although my friends insisted again and again that I used a powerful gasoline engine , I had a broader scope. ” Undoubtedly, Rodriguez was a visionary: this was six years ago, when electric cars still looked like something very distant and niche. The Carthaginian hit the spot with his choice. First he drew the body on paper, then 3D on a computer. “I was inspired by BMW and Aston Martin models. But although some parts remember these brands, everything has a balance that gives it its own personality “. The engine was purchased from a US company that offers kits to convert gasoline cars into electric cars. “It’s one of 70 HP, with 40 kWh batteries,” he explains. He also purchased the components for the chassis, a very simple one consisting of a longitudinal tube and suspensions based on those of a very popular sports car, the Mazda MX-5. When Rodriguez was about to finish his car, he received a call from the president of Marnys, a cosmetics and parapharmacy company. The businessman, passionate about cars, had seen him in a local television interview, and offered him a thousand square meter ship and all the necessary elements to finish his car.

The result is Pure Car, a sports appeal that is still a prototype. “It’s just a specimen sample, but although we’re going to keep the body, we’re going to change it completely inside,” Rodríguez explains. The final model will have a 100 kWh battery with an advanced cooling system based on the Tesla, and a 300 HP engine. The autonomy will reach 600 kilometers, and they expect the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in less than three seconds. The chassis will be totally new, with carbon components. The two entrepreneurs are now looking for financial partners to give the final push to the project . “Our market, for the moment, is the luxury one.
